Most riders elect to use the thin 5g yellow spoke tape and no rim strip. The tape and valve method creates a lighter wheelset and the rim design will allow you to run extremely low pressures with very little or no burping. Every other rim in the world has a bead hook. Brand new for 2010, the Podium MMX rim is a development of the hugely successful Race rims. Weighing in at under 290g per rim they build a superlight wheelset whilst still being wide enough to hold tyres in a great profile. Sub 1230g wheelsets are easily achievable. Designed to run non-UST tyres without tubes they feature the next generation bead hook and ultra low profile sidewalls to keep the tyre firmly seated at all times and virtually eliminate pressure loss through burping . As a full-on XC race rim, they have a limited lifespan of 3000-5000 miles depending on the rider and also have a recommended rider weight limit of 170lbs but will provide the best performance possible.
